As a group project for my graduate studio, we were asked to design a “map” that reflects the value system of the provocation, how do (have) technological networks–inclusive of the “internet of things”–affect/impact the work of graphic designers?
We decided as a group that it was best to represent our map in a way that it could be interacted with in different ways among two or more participants. This is not a game, there is no way to win, as it is a way for collaboration to happen. The goal was for participants to build a network of issues and ideas that informs their understanding about the relationship between graphic design and networks.
Much like the research we encountered when developing and designing this project, we concluded that the map we create should be resemble three words: unstable, expansive and participatory. This idea of a metaphorical “house of cards” has no ending because speculation and collaboration & revolution will continue.
